Check In Day

So it was finally time for the offical start of the program, moving into my Disney housing. I was honestly a nervous wreck on the inside but super excited also to finally see Patterson Court and also find out what apartment type I had and meet my roommates.

We arrived a little early so security allowed us in but made us wait outside in the hot sun. Eventually allowing us to head off to the clubhouse to check in. We walked inside and found out that they had changed where it was occurring. So we turned out and laughed at the fact we passed the desk where it was.

The first step was to give our name and passport to receive our program guide. This has general information, and on the back also has you apartment key, apartment number and at the time the most important information to me… the apartment type. I was so excited to find out that I got a 3 bedroom 6 person. My absolute dream apartment for Patterson as the rent was affordable and meant no bunk bed and only sharing a room/bathroom with 1 other person. The next step was the housing ID photo and check in stuff and then it was time to go see my apartment.

Nervously I opened the door to see what I was walking in to and my heart sank a little, seeing that at least 1 other person had already moved in. Basically as soon as I was in the door one of the roommates came out and introduced himself and told me about the situation ( 4/6 people had already moved in) and that there was no completely empty room but I could pick which room I wanted. I ended up choosing the room behind the kitchen and sharing with him.

I wasn’t there long before dropping my stuff and heading over to The Commons for drug and alcohol testing. I also met my other roommate that moved in that day and that was an interesting process. After we finished we walked back together and met the other guys we will be sharing with for the next 5 months.

I was a little awkward but soldiered through it. I went and picked up my bedding package and started moving in officially. Part way through I kinda just gave up and decided that I should head to Walmart for groceries and the last few items I forgot. That’s my Aussie flat mate came with me and we ended up meeting our British friend.

Of course as soon as we finished our purchases the rain came through with a true vengeance so we tried waiting out a little bit it showed no sign of stopping. So we sucked it up and went back to the apartment and unpacked and finally settled in.

That night the Aussie group was supposed to go to the contemporary and watch the fireworks however everyone bailed (due to everyone else having new roommates that started that day to and hadn’t been there already for months/weeks). So my Aussie flat mate and the British friend decided to do a guys night out.

We did some resorts first and got dole whip (as our British friend had never had it before) and then headed over to the contemporary and claimed our balcony to watch the fireworks. It was such a magical night and getting to see them for the first night was truely incredible
